Wichita State's smothering defense held Illinois State to 32 percent from the field and the Shockers won the rebounding battle 41-30.
Baker and Early both scored 11 points, the only Wichita State players to reach double figures.
Bobby Hunter also had 11 for Illinois State (8-7, 1-2 MVC).
Wichita State led by 13 at the half and held the Redbirds without a point for the first 3:30 of the second period.
