WICHITA, Kan., Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Ron Baker and Cleanthony Early led a balanced attack Wednesday in keeping No. 6 Wichita State unbeaten with a 66-47 victory over Illinois State.

The Shockers won their 16th in a row, the longest such streak in the history of the school. They improved to 3-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference despite making just 41 percent of their shots.

Wichita State's smothering defense held Illinois State to 32 percent from the field and the Shockers won the rebounding battle 41-30.

Baker and Early both scored 11 points, the only Wichita State players to reach double figures.

Bobby Hunter also had 11 for Illinois State (8-7, 1-2 MVC).

Wichita State led by 13 at the half and held the Redbirds without a point for the first 3:30 of the second period.
