COL BKB: Iowa State 73, Texas Tech 62

LUBBOCK, Texas, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Georges Niang scored 17 points Saturday and No. 12 Iowa State tied a team record with a 73-62 win over Texas Tech in the teams' Big 12 conference opener.

Niang hauled down seven rebounds for the Cyclones (13-0, 1-0 Big 12), who equaled a school record with their 13th straight victory. The last time they took that many consecutive wins was Dec. 3, 1999-Jan. 19, 2000.

Melvin Ejim added 16 points and DeAndre Kane provided 15 points and six assists.

Jaye Crockett paced the Red Raiders (8-6, 0-1) with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Dusty Hannahs came off the bench to score 16.
