COL BKB: Wichita State 82, Southern Illinois 67

CARBONDALE, Ill., Jan. 2 (UPI) -- Cleanthony Early hit 8-of-11 from the field as part of a hot shooting performance Thursday that brought No. 7 Wichita State an 82-67 win over Southern Illinois.

Early scored 23 points and the Shockers hit 60 percent from the field. Wichita State remained unbeaten in their 14 games this season, capturing their first Missouri Valley Conference contest of the year.


Wichita State built a 17-point halftime lead and coasted from there with Fred VanVleet adding 17 points and Nick Wiggins scoring 13 off the bench.

Desmar Jackson scored 19 for Southern Illinois (4-10, 0-1 MVC).
