SYRACUSE, N.Y., Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Jerami Grant scored nine consecutive points early in the game Tuesday, sending the No. 2 Syracuse Orange to a 70-48 win over the Eastern Michigan Eagles.

Eastern Michigan got a 3-point shot from Ray Lee 55 seconds into the game for a 3-2 lead but Grant scored the next nine points and the Orange was never really threatened thereafter.

Syracuse (13-0) led by as many as 20 in the first half before taking a 36-27 lead into the break. The Eagles (7-5) got as close as 37-32 but Trevor Cooney capped a 7-0 Syracuse run with a 3-point shot and the Orange pulled away again.

Grant finished with 15 points, an effort matched by Rakeem Christmas, while C.J. Fair added 13 points and Cooney 10 for Syracuse.

Glenn Bryant made 8-of-11 shots en route to a game-high 19 points and eight rebounds for Eastern Michigan.
