ANN ARBOR, Mich., April 9 (UPI) -- Crowds were subdued in Ann Arbor, Mich., in the aftermath of the University of Michigan's loss to Louisville in the NCAA championship game, officials said.

Officials said firefighters responded to several furniture fires Monday and, at least once, students cheered as firefighters extinguished one blaze, AnnArbor.com reported Tuesday.

The Louisville Cardinals beat the Michigan Wolverines 82-76 to claim the NCAA men's basketball championship Monday night in Atlanta.

Ann Arbor Police Sgt. Craig Flocken estimated eight fires were reported as of 2:30 a.m. Tuesday and another unconfirmed fire was reported later.

Police said they made two arrests.

"It's actually been pretty normal for a night where you have U-M activity going on," Flocken said. "There hasn't really been anything major."

Diane Brown, spokeswoman for university police, said the campus department hadn't made any arrests as of 2 a.m. and many of the extra patrols brought in had been sent home.
