LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 2 (UPI) -- Louisville guard Kevin Ware was released from an Indianapolis hospital Tuesday, two days after suffered a horrific leg injury during the NCAA Tournament.

Ware sent a text message to the Courier-Journal newspaper in Louisville, Ky., that he was leaving Methodist Hospital and expected to travel to Atlanta -- the site of this weekend's Final Four -- Wednesday.

Ware was injured during Sunday's Midwest Regional championship game against Duke, suffering a compound fracture of the right tibia. The Cardinals, the No. 1-overall seed in the tournament, won the game and earned a spot in the Final Four.

Ware underwent surgery Sunday and was walking with a help of crutches Monday.

Ware was able to call his father, Kevin Ware, Sr., Monday and tell him the doctors' verdict, "They said I can walk today."

Later in the day, the elder Ware saw his son standing with the help of crutches near his Indianapolis hospital bed, taking tentative steps, the newspaper reported.

Doctors have said it would be about six months before Ware could return to the basketball court.
