Baylor had been a disappointment during the regular season, posting only a breakeven record in the Big 12 Conference.

Heslip hit 8-of-11 from both the field and the foul line while Cory Jefferson was adding 15 points and Taurean Prince was contributing 14. Baylor owned a 58-34 halftime lead while running its record to 19-14.

Long Beach State (19-14) won the regular-season title in the Big West Conference, but was eliminated in the semifinals of that league's tournament.

The 49ers were paced by Kris Gulley with 13 points.
