GARLAND, Texas, March 16 (UPI) -- Derick Beltran scored 13 points Saturday, sending Southern to a 45-44 Southwestern Athletic Conference win over Prairie View A&M and an NCAA Tournament spot.

Beltran also grabbed seven rebounds.

YonDarius Johnson added eight points for the Jaguars (23-9), who landed in the national tourney for the first time since 2006.

They hung on for the win when Prairie View's Jourdan DeMuynck lost control of the ball in the closing seconds and was unable to attempt a potential game-winning shot.

The Panthers (15-19) got 15 points from DeMuynck as they fell short in a bid for their first conference title since 1998.
