NEW YORK, March 14 (UPI) -- James Southerland made all six of his three-point shots in firing No. 20 Syracuse to a 62-59 win over No. 19 Pittsburgh in a Big East Tournament quarterfinal.

Michael Carter-Williams scored the final six points and had a key late steal for the Orange, which was able to just keep ahead of Pittsburgh down the stretch.

Syracuse (25-8) moves into the tournament semifinals Friday against No. 5 Georgetown, which was a 62-43 winner over Cincinnati earlier Thursday. It was the final Big East Tournament appearance for Pittsburgh (24-8), as the Panthers -- along with Syracuse -- move to the ACC next season.

Carter-Williams dropped in a layup with 2:18 that put Syracuse ahead 58-52 but Tray Woodall had a three-point play and Talib Zanna hit a short shot that pulled Pittsburgh within 58-57 with 32 second to go.

After a Syracuse turnover Carter-Williams grabbed a missed Panthers' shot and was fouled. He made both free throws for a three-point lead. As Pittsburgh worked for a shot on the next possession, Carter-Williams stepped in front of a pass and stole the ball. He was again fouled and his two free throws put the game out of reach at 62-57.

Southerland set a tournament record with his 6-of-6 three-point shooting and was 7-of-10 overall from the floor. C.J. Fair added 13 points for Syracuse while Brandon Triche had 12 and Carter-Williams 11 and seven assists.

Pittsburgh was led by Lamar Patterson's 14-point, 11-rebound game.
