Indiana remains No. 1 in coaches' poll

MCLEAN, Va., Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Indiana remains No. 1 in the USA Today Coaches' basketball poll, marking the first time in six weeks there is no change at the top of the poll.

The voting coaches seem impressed with the Hoosiers (24-3), putting Indiana first on 28 ballots and second on the other three. Gonzaga (27-2) receives the other first-place mentions and moves to No. 2 this week.

Duke (24-3) and Michigan (23-4) are both up three spots this week to third and fourth, respectively, while Kansas (23-4) is No. 5 after a week at ninth.

Florida (22-4) slips two places to sixth and Miami (Fla.) (22-4) falls five spots to No. 7 after suffering its first ACC loss of the season. Miami and Duke meet Saturday in one of the highlight games of this week, along with Sunday's Michigan State-Michigan.

Georgetown (21-4) jumps from 11th to No. 8 with Louisville (22-5) in ninth and Michigan State (22-6), which was fifth a week ago, in 10th.

Arizona (23-4) takes the No. 11 position and Syracuse (22-5) drops from eighth to 12th while Kansas State (22-5) holds at 13th. New Mexico (23-4) and Ohio State (2-7) are voted 14th and 15th, respectively.

Wisconsin (19-8) comes in 16th and Memphis (24-3) is No. 17. Oklahoma State (20-6), down three places, is 18th. St. Louis (21-5), one of three new teams in the rankings this week, is No. 19 and Notre Dame (22-6) is 20th.

Butler (22-6), 10th two weeks ago, sags to 21st ahead of No. 22 Marquette (19-7). No. 23 St. Mary's (Calif.) (24-5) and 24th-ranked Akron (22-4) are also new entries. Virginia Commonwealth (22-6) is No. 25.

St. Louis, St. Mary's and Akron are making their first appearances in the Top 25 this season. Colorado State, Pittsburgh and Oregon all fall from the rankings.

In addition to the Miami-Duke and Michigan State-Michigan games: Syracuse and Marquette were scheduled to meet Monday night and Syracuse follows that with a game Saturday at Louisville. Also Saturday, Marquette plays host to Notre Dame and Butler is at Virginia Commonwealth.
