EVANSVILLE, Ind., Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Doug McDermott fired in 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds Saturday, helping No. 23 Creighton hold off Evansville 71-68.

The Bluejays led by nine points with 4:55 remaining but the Purple Aces then went on an 8-0 run, capped by an Adam Wing jumper, to pull within a point with less than 2 minutes to go.

Grant Gibbs' lay-in with 1:45 remaining, however, turned back the rally and Creighton (21-6, 10-5 MVC) held on to break a three-game losing streak.

Austin Chatman provided 12 points while Gibbs finished with nine and six boards for the victors.

Ned Cox scored 18 points, including four 3-pointers, and Colt Ryan donated 13 with 10 assists for Evansville (14-13, 7-8).
