MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Tyler Griffey scored 16 points and Tracy Abrams connected on a game-clinching 3-pointer Sunday, allowing Illinois to hold off No. 18 Minnesota 57-53.
Griffey drained four 3-pointers and Abrams' trey with 21 seconds left boosted a one-point Illinois lead to four, providing key insurance down the stretch for the Illini (17-8, 4-7 Big Ten).
D.J. Richardson's 13 points and Brandon Paul's 10 also helped assure Illinois its second straight victory.
Austin Hollins put in 16 points while Trevor Mbakwe added 13 and 10 rebounds for the Golden Gophers (17-7, 5-6), who dropped a second straight and sixth in eight contests.
