MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- A 21-point effort from Tim Hardaway Jr. sent No. 5 Michigan to a big lead Thursday and the Wolverines held on to down 12th-ranked Minnesota 83-75.

Michigan bounced back from its first loss of the season to post a surprisingly one-sided road triumph. The Wolverines led by as many as 19 in the second half and permitted Minnesota to get no closer than seven in the closing minutes.

Hardaway hit 7-of-8 from the field and 4-of-5 from 3-point range. Michigan was 10-of-20 overall from beyond the arc, part of a 54.9 percent shooting performance from the field. Trey Burke added 18 points and nine assist for the Wolverines.

Minnesota (15-3, 3-2) lost its second straight after winning 11 in a row. The Golden Gophers turned the ball over 15 times, negating 50 percent shooting from the field and a career-best 21 points from Austin Hollins.
