
COLUMBUS, Ohio, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Deshaun Thomas pumped in 20 points Saturday, helping 14th-ranked Ohio State deal the first loss of the season to No. 2 Michigan, 56-53.
Sam Thompson, Aaron Craft (nine points each) and Lenzelle Smith Jr. (four, 10 rebounds) also helped carry the Buckeyes (13-3, 3-1 Big Ten) to the win, their second straight.
Ohio State never trailed in besting the Wolverines (16-1, 3-1), who lost their status as the nation's lone unbeaten team.
Michigan has a chance to grab with lead in the closing seconds but Trey Burke (15 points) saw his potential go-ahead 3-pointer rattle off the rim.
Tim Hardaway Jr. was held to 12 points on 5-of-15 shooting as the Wolverines managed to sink just 38.3 percent of their shots from the field.
