SAN DIEGO, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Jamal Franklin touched off San Diego State's quick start Wednesday and the No. 17 Aztecs sprinted to a 72-57 victory over California State-Bakersfield.

San Diego State held the Roadrunners scoreless for a 5-minute stretch of the first half while building a 13-point lead and the Aztecs were not threatened from there.

Franklin scored 18 points and had 12 rebounds. San Diego State won for the 31st straight time against opponents from California. It was the consecutive straight victory overall for the Aztecs (12-2).

The Roadrunners (6-11) were led by Stephon Carter with 21 points. They tried 18 shots from 3-point range and hit just three of them.
