MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Andre Hollins scored 22 points Monday and 13th-ranked Minnesota opened Big Ten Conference play with a 76-63 victory over No. 18 Michigan State.
Hollins also had six assists while Rodney Williams contributed 15 points and six rebounds for the Golden Gophers (13-1, 1-0 Big Ten).

Trevor Mbakwe provided a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds as Minnesota reeled off its ninth consecutive victory.
The Spartans (11-3, 0-1), meanwhile, saw their six-game winning streak broken despite 15 points, six steals and five assists from Keith Appling.
