EAST LANSING, Mich., Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Gary Harris scored 20 points for No. 17 Michigan State Saturday and the Spartans turned in a torrid second half to speed past Loyola-Illinois 73-61.

The Spartans (8-3) used a 15-5 run early in the second frame to grab the lead for good, though they had to turn back a late Ramblers rally.

Adreian Payne contributed a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Keith Appling helped out with eight points and seven assists as MSU posted its third straight win.

Loyola (6-3) got 25 points and eight rebounds from Ben Averkamp.
