SPOKANE, Wash., Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Brandon Paul canned five 3-pointers on his way to 35 points Saturday, lifting No. 14 Illinois to an 85-74 decision over 10th-ranked Gonzaga.

Paul went 10-of-16 from the field and 10-of-11 at the free-throw line for the Illini (10-0), who bested a ranked opponent for the first time in seven tries.

Tracy Abrams added 14 points and D.J. Richardson also reached double figures with 11 for the victors.

The Bulldogs (9-1) tumbled for the first time this season despite 16 points and eight rebounds from Kelly Olynyk, and 15 points, seven boards and four assists from Elias Harris.
