SYRACUSE, N.Y., Dec. 6 (UPI) -- C.J. Fair was one of five Syracuse players in double figures Thursday and Coach Jim Boeheim neared a milestone in the Orange's 84-53 win over Long Beach State.
Boeheim needs three more victories to become the third men's major college basketball coach to reach 900 for a career. Duke's Mike Krzyzewski and former Indiana coach Bob Knight are the only ones who have achieved that total.
Fair scored 16 points and seized a career-best 13 rebounds in helping the fourth-ranked Orange win their 27th home game -- the longest current streak in Division I.
Michael Carter-Williams added 15 points and 10 assists. Syracuse (7-0) steadily pulled away in the second half after taking an 11-point lead at the break.
Long Beach State (3-5) was led by a career-high 20 points from Dan Jennings.
