EAST LANSING, Mich., Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Keith Appling scored 22 points, including a 3-point play in the closing seconds, and No. 19 Michigan State escaped with a 74-70 win over Boise State Tuesday.

Appling's driving bank shot and subsequent free throw with 15 seconds remaining gave the Spartans (3-1) a five-point lead and sealed their hard-fought non-conference victory.

The MSU guard also provided seven assists, five rebounds and three steals while Denzel Valentine (12 points), Branden Dawson and Adreian Payne (10 each) also reached double figures for the Spartans.

The Broncos (3-1) were paced by Derrick Marks with 24 points.
