COL BKB: Syracuse 62, San Diego State 49

SAN DIEGO, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- C.J. Fair's 17 points and 10 rebounds powered No. 9 Syracuse to a 62-49 season-opening win over No. 20 San Diego State Sunday aboard the USS Midway.

Michael Carter-Williams helped out with 17 points and Brandon Triche added 15 for the Orange (1-0), who last year made it to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.

The contest on the deck of the aircraft carrier was supposed to be held Friday, but was delayed until Sunday due to weather forecasts calling for wet and windy conditions.

The Aztecs (0-1), meanwhile, this season are seeking to improve on 2011-12's second-round exit from the NCAA tourney.

Jamaal Franklin led San Diego State with 11 points and eight rebounds.
