Calhoun will bike again after hip heals

STORRS, Conn., Aug. 7 (UPI) -- University of Connecticut men's basketball Coach Jim Calhoun said Tuesday he'll resume bicycling after the hip he fractured in a weekend fall mends.

The 70-year-old Huskies coach, speaking to reporters after being released from John Dempsey Hospital at the UConn Health Center in Farmington, said the accident won't dampen his enthusiasm for biking, The Hartford Courant reported.

"I'll bike again," Calhoun said. "I've been getting e-mails and letters from people, 'try a treadmill,' and that sort of thing. But I'll ride when I'm able to."

The Saturday mishap near his summer home in Madison, Conn., forced him to miss his annual charity all-star alumni game at the Mohegan Sun Casino.

"It was a big disappointment," Calhoun said. "It's my favorite day of the year."

The Hall of Fame coach indicated he won't need a hip replacement but will have to undergo several weeks of physical therapy with no set timetable for a return, the Courant reported.
