LEXINGTON, Ky., April 17 (UPI) -- University of Kentucky star freshmen Anthony Davis and four of his underclassmen teammates declared themselves eligible for the NBA Draft Tuesday.

Davis, fellow freshmen Marquis Teague and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, and sophomores Terrence Jones and Doron Lamb, announced they had opted to turn professional.

The quintet lifted Kentucky to its eighth NCAA national basketball title this month.

They appeared at a press conference along with Wildcats head Coach John Calipari.

Davis, named the national player of the year, is widely considered to be an overall No. 1 pick. He averaged 14.2 points and 10.4 rebounds per game while blocking 186 shots during the 2011-12 season.
