NASHVILLE, March 2 (UPI) -- Donte Poole led Murray State to a hot shooting effort Friday and the No. 9 Racers reached the OVC Tournament title game by downing Tennessee Tech 78-58.
Murray State had a bye into the semifinals after running away with the regular-season Ohio Valley championship. The Racers were the last team in the country to suffer a loss this season, falling to Tennessee State Feb. 9.
That loss was avenged when Murray State defeated Tennessee State by 18 points Feb. 23, and now the two teams will meet again for the conference tournament crown.
Tennessee State (20-11) grabbed a spot in the championship game by defeating Morehead State in the second semifinal 59-52.
Poole scored 25 points to go with seven rebounds. Murray State shot 54 percent from the field and ran away with the game despite going 5 minutes without a point in the second half.
Isaiah Canaan added 18 points for Murray State (29-1) and Ed Daniel had 11. Tennessee Tech knocked Murray State out of this tournament a year ago.
The Golden Eagles (19-13) were led by Kevin Murphy with 31 points. He surpassed 2,000 points for his career, becoming the 16th player in conference history to do so.
