COL BKB: Loyola Marymt. 75, St. Mary's 60

MORAGA, Calif., Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Drew Viney scored 17 points Wednesday and helped Loyola Marymount pull away in the second half for a surprising 75-60 victory over No. 16 St. Mary's.

The Lions trailed by one with less than 18 minutes remaining, then steadily surged in front on their way to a win that put a dent in St. Mary's hopes of claiming the undisputed West Coast Conference title.

Anthony Ireland scored 16 points and Jarred DuBois had 15 for the Lions (17-10, 10-4 WCC).

Of the 57 field goal attempts by St. Mary's, 28 came from 3-point range. The Gaels made just six of those and converted a mere 22 field goals overall.

Rob Jones scored 25 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for the Gaels, but he played only 20 minutes due to foul trouble.

St. Mary's has lost two of three to fall to 23-4 for the season. The Gaels are 12-2 in conference play with two league games left while Gonzaga has a 10-2 league record.

St. Mary's and Gonzaga have split their two meetings.
