COLORADO SPRINGS, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Jeff Reynolds was fired Wednesday as men's basketball coach at the Air Force Academy, the school announced.
Reynolds was in his fifth season as the Falcons' coach. Air Force is 11-10 (1-6 in the Mountain West) on the season but has lost its last six games.
The Falcons pushed No. 12-ranked Nevada-Las Vegas to overtime, but lost, and then was beaten by 39 points at New Mexico. That was the worst home loss in team history and was followed by a 67-49 setback to Colorado State in the team's most recent game.
Air Force Athletic Director Hans Mueh said associate head coach Dave Pilipovich would coach the team for the rest of the season. It is his first head coaching position.
Air Force was 63-82 under Reynolds. The Falcons were 16-16 last season after back-to-back 21-loss seasons. They were 16-14 in Reynolds' first season.
In addition to coaching at Air Force, Reynolds was head coach at North Carolina Wesleyan and Wingate. His record in more than eight seasons is 145-116.
Pilipovich's first game will be Saturday when Air Force plays Boise State.
