COL BKB: Florida 74, South Carolina 66

GAINESVILLE, Fla., Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Kenny Boynton helped fight off a South Carolina rally Thursday and scored 24 points in leading No. 11 Florida over the Gamecocks 74-66.

Florida built an early 17-point lead but South Carolina battled back to trail by only six with 1:13 remaining. Boynton had five points the rest of the way to end South Carolina's hopes and bring the Gators their sixth straight win.

Bradley Beal had 17 points and Erving Walker scored 14 for Florida (18-4, 6-1 Southeastern Conference). The Gators are alone in second place behind Kentucky in the league race.

Bruce Ellington produced 15 points for South Carolina (9-12, 1-6).

Florida won despite making only 37 percent of its shots from the field. The Gators were 23-of-32 from the foul line and made 7-of-28 from 3-point range.
