STARKVILLE, Miss., Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Arnett Moultrie's steal with 7 seconds to play led to a key technical foul Wednesday and brought No. 16 Mississippi State a 76-71 win over LSU.
The Bulldogs had an 11-point lead with 5:20 to play but LSU cut the deficit to a single point on Anthony Hickey's 3-pointer with 19 seconds remaining.
Jalen Steele then made two free throws for the Bulldogs and LSU had a chance to tie the game with a long-range shot. Moultrie, however, stole the ball from Hickey and, after Hickey was called for a foul, LSU Coach Trent Johnson argued the call to the point that he received a technical foul, sending Moultrie to the line.
Moultrie made the technical free throw with 3 seconds to play and was then 1-of-2 from the line on the original foul call.
Moultrie scored 28 points and had 12 rebounds. Steele added 15 points for the Bulldogs (17-4, 4-2 Southeastern Conference).
Andre Stringer had 17 points for LSU (12-8, 2-4), which has lost four out of five.
