BLACKSBURG, Va., Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Harrison Barnes scored 27 points Thursday and helped No. 8 North Carolina dominate the second half on its way to an 82-68 win over Virginia Tech.
The Tar Heels suffered a 33-point loss to Florida State in their previous outing, their worst defeat under Coach Roy Williams, and found themselves trailing the Hokies by five at halftime.
Barnes was then joined by John Henson and Tyler Zeller in rallying North Carolina and overcoming Virginia Tech's barrage of 3-point shots.
Henson had 16 points and 16 rebounds while Zeller added 14 points and 11 boards. North Carolina (16-3, 3-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) won the rebounding battle 47-25.
Erick Green scored 17 points for Virginia Tech (16-3, 3-1), which made 13-of-31 attempts from beyond the arc.
