ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Michael Jordan's son, Jeff, has quit the basketball team at the University of Central Florida, the team announced this weekend.
The school did not reveal Jordan's reason for leaving the team, but wished him well in a written statement issued by head coach Donnie Jones.
"We appreciate his contributions to our program and he will always be a member of the UCF basketball family," the statement said.
The Orlando Sentinel said Jordan, a senior point guard, did not travel with the team to East Carolina Saturday.
Jordan averaged 2.7 points and 1.8 assists per game this season, but had seen his playing time diminish when senior guard A.J. Rompza returned after a 12-game absence. His younger brother, Marcus, is the leading scorer on the UCF squad.
