PISCATAWAY, N.J., Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Eli Carter sparked Rutgers with 19 points and Myles Mack added 14 Saturday in the Scarlet Knights' 67-60 upset of No. 8 Connecticut.
Rutgers notched its second win of the season over a ranked opponent -- the Scarlet Knights also edged then-No. 10 Florida Dec. 29 in a double-overtime contest.
Rutgers (9-7, 1-2 Big East) shook off losses to South Florida and West Virginia in its first two conference games to down the defending national champs, snapping a 10-game losing streak to the Huskies.
Connecticut (12-3, 2-2), meanwhile, lost its second straight as Coach Jim Calhoun returned to the bench following a three-game NCAA suspension.
Calhoun was sanctioned for failing to maintain "an atmosphere of compliance" within the program.
Shabazz Napier led UConn with 23 points.
