COL BKB: Syracuse 75, Seton Hall 49

SYRACUSE, N.Y., Dec. 28 (UPI) -- A 15-point effort from Dion Waiters and a strong defensive performance Wednesday sent top-ranked Syracuse sailing past Seton Hall 75-49.

The unbeaten Orange opened their Big East Conference campaign with an easy victory in which they held the Pirates to 31 percent shooting from the field.

Syracuse ran its record to 14-0 while forcing 22 turnovers, 16 of which came from steals. The Orange turned the ball over just six times.

Waiters made 7-of-10 shots from the field. Fab Melo scored 12 points and Brandon Triche added 11 for Syracuse.

Jordan Theodore was the only player in double figures for Seton Hall with 14. Seven of the 19 field goals made by the Pirates (11-2) came from 3-point range.

The only loss suffered in non-conference play by Seton Hall this season came against Northwestern. The Pirates had an eight-game winning streak snapped.
