COLUMBUS, Ohio, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- William Buford pumped in 28 points Wednesday and second-ranked Ohio State opened its Big Ten conference season with an 87-54 rout of Northwestern.
Buford grabbed nine rebounds while Jared Sullinger had 17 points and 14 rebounds for the Buckeyes (13-1, 1-0 Big Ten), who began their quest for a third straight conference title with a 34th straight home win.
Deshaun Thomas had 16 points and Jordan Sibert scored 12 for Ohio State.
Top scorers Drew Crawford and John Shurna combined for a total of 24 points for the Wildcats (10-3, 0-1) -- going just 2-for-8 from 3-point range.
