BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Christian Watford's fall-away 3-pointer with time running out Saturday carried Indiana to a thrilling 73-72 upset of top-ranked Kentucky.
Watford's last-chance heave off a kick-back pass from Verdell Jones III in the closing seconds boosted the Hoosiers (9-0) to stunning win over the Wildcats -- Indiana's first victory over a No. 1 team since 2002.
Watford finished 4-of-6 from 3-point range en route to 20 points. Victor Oladipo added 13 and grabbed seven rebounds for the Hoosiers, whose fans flooded the court in celebration after the win.
Indiana led by nine points with 8 minutes remaining in the game, but the Wildcats (8-1) chipped away down the stretch and took a 71-70 lead on a Marquis Teague layup with 48 seconds left.
Doron Lamb (19 points) made only one of two free throws for a two-point Kentucky lead before Watford's game-winner.
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist added 18 points and nine rebounds in the Wildcats' first loss of the season in their initial road game.
