Thompson gave the Hoyas a 54-45 lead with 2:56 remaining by making a layup but Alabama then ran off 10 consecutive points. The Crimson Tide took a 55-45 lead on Trevor Releford's two free throws with 13 seconds left, but after a timeout, Thompson threw in his game-winner.

Georgetown improved to 6-1 by making 7-of-17 from 3-point range.

Jason Clark hit 7-of-11 from the field and scored 22 points to lead the Hoyas. Henry Sims added 13 points and Thompson had 12.

Tony Mitchell paced Alabama (7-1) with 20 points.

The loss by the Crimson Tide -- coupled with North Dakota State's first loss of the season, to Western Illinois -- left 19 teams in major college basketball with perfect records.

No. 1 Kentucky along with Kansas State, Harvard and Murray State all stayed unbeaten with victories Thursday.
