There is one thing Johnny Weir cannot wear on-air

The arguably most fashionably fabulous host at the Olympics has one restriction on his wardrobe.

SOCHI, Russia, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- Johnny Weir and NBC agree there is one thing that he cannot wear on-air, and that is fur.

Weir is not shy when it comes to going fashion forward for hosting figure skating with his co-host Tara Lipinski. The two even coordinate their outfits together every day and make the best Instagram videos of it. The one rule is that he not wear fur, and Weir has no problem with that.

"We've been having conversations since the fall about how I was going to appear in Sochi," said Weir. "They said go for it, do whatever you want, just on our air, no fur. And that's something I can understand. I said I don't think it's really appropriate [to wear fur on the air]. Fur is a very distinct decision that a person makes, they support it or don't. I don't want to be in a position to throw [NBC] under the bus if people get upset."

Weir has reportedly bought fur coats in Russia (a very popular souvenir along with fur hats) but has learned his lesson about wearing fur in public. He had to pledge not to wear any during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games when he received death threats and threats to have his routines interrupted by fur activists. Weir says he will not stop wearing for altogether, as he believes it is a personal choice.

"It's a personal choice. It's something that I like," he said. "Some people see a Mercedes or a diamond as the luxury item that means you made it. For some reason, I saw it as a fur coat ... It's not about houses or cars for me, it's about looking good. And fur is a part of that mix."
