German athlete fails doping test

The name of the German athlete in question has not been released.

SOCHI, Russia, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- The German Olympic Sports Confederation reported that a sample from one of the German athletes has come back positive for doping.

The statement, which the Confederation released on its website Friday, said that the International Olympic Committee sent a note Thursday night saying there was a positive result to the "A" sample of a drug test for one of their athletes. The name of the athlete has not been released.

The IOC disciplinary commission will release the results of the "B" sample and hold a hearing later Friday.
