Dec. 11 (UPI) --Ballon d'Or front runner added another record to his legend by scoring a goal Tuesday against Copenhagen break the record for most goals scored in the Champions League group stage.

The goal was Ronaldo's ninth of the season, breaking the record of eight previously shared by Filippo Inzaghi, Hernan Crespo, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, and Zlatan Ibrahimovich. For his part, Ibrahimovich's eight were also registered this year.

“I think that Inzaghi will not be happy tonight because he has lost this record,” Real Madrid Manager Carlo Ancelotti said after the match. “[Ronaldo] has gone ahead of a very strong player. Inzaghi was very strong inside the area and Ibrahimovic is powerful with a fantastic ability to score and assist. Cristiano Ronaldo is a complete forward who can score goals in every way possible.”

Ronaldo went on to miss a penalty in the 2-0 win over their Danish rivals and further distance themselves from Juventus in Group B. Juventus will play Galatasaray Wednesday for a decider on who will follow Real Madrid into the knockout stages of the Champions League.
