Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Manchester United's Phil Jones scored the lone goal of a match that sent the Red Devils top of Group A in the UEFA Champions League. United held off Shakhtar to give manager David Moyes some relief after struggling in the English Premier League this season.

Shakhtar had more shots than the Red Devils in Manchester but Moyes' side was able to hold them off for 90 minutes.

Also in Group A, Bayer Leverkusen held off Real Sociedad 1-0 to leap over Shakhtar and finish second in the group. Leverkusen will now advance behind United to the knockout stages.
