Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Chelsea will play Steaua Bucuresti in the UEFA Champions League Group E match Wednesday with a hope of extending their lead atop the group. Meanwhile, FC Basel and Schalke 04 will battle it out hoping Chelsea slip up and one of them can take over the top spot. Chelsea has had mixed results this season, putting in some impressive attacking displays in the league, but a recent loss to Stoke will have hurt the team's confidence. In the Champions League, FC Basel have taken six of their eight total points off of Chelsea, which has helped them to second place in the group at the moment.
In Group G Atletico Madrid will face FC Porto and Austria Vienna will take on Zenit St Petersburg. Madrid has already clinched top spot in the group while Zenit will need a win against the already out Vienna side to advance. Porto will need a victory against in form Atletico and hope that Zenit draw or lose their match.
In Group H, struggling AC Milan will face Ajax Amsterdam as group leaders Barcelona play Celtic. Celtic is currently bottom of the group with no chance at moving up the table, while Barcelona is top. However, should the circumstances favor Milan they could top the group, though it would require either a Barcelona loss, or a Barcelona draw with a big win for Milan. Ajax has had a solid run in the CL this year as they beat Barcelona in their most recent match.
