Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the English Premier League to five points after drawing at home against high-flying Everton. Mesut Ozil scored a goal in the 80th minute to give the Gunners the lead before Everton's youngster Gerard Deulofeu, on loan from Barcelona, leveled the match.

Arsenal is now five points ahead of second place Liverpool, whose 4-1 win against West Ham United on Saturday put them into second place tied on points with Chelsea. Both Chelsea and Manchester United lost at the weekend, to Stoke and Newcastle respectively. Manchester City tied 1-1 while Tottenham Hotspur beat Sunderland 2-1.

The English Premier League is a close race this year a usual powerhouse like Manchester United has been slipping up in the league and teams like Everton have been performing above expectations.
