Aragones has had a successful career as a manager at Barcelona, Espanyol, Sevilla, Valencia, Betis and Real Mallorca. He also was a successful player at Getafe, Real Madrid, Real Oviedo, Atletico Madrid and Real Betis.
During his time as Spain coach between 2004-2008 he was renowned for getting Spain to play an exciting brand of football which included lots of short passing and non-stop movement. He was however surrounded by controversy for a short while when he had allegedly used a racial slur to describe French forward Thierry Henry while speaking to Henry's Arsenal teammate and Spanish national team player Jose Antonio Reyes.
