Calls for Pacquiao-Mayweather fight renewed

Pacquiao beat Brandon Rios on Saturday

Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Calls for a showdown between American Floyd Mayweather and the Philippines Manny Pacquiao have been renewed following a strong performance by Pacquiao Saturday against Brandon Rios.

It was a convincing win for the Philippines man, especially considering the destruction that took place a couple weeks ago in his homeland. "It was very difficult for me," Pacquiao said. "Such bad things happened to the people in that … area," he said.

Now, calls have been renewed for Pacquiao and Mayweather to face off. Dan Rafael of ESPN said that a fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao is “once again the most compelling potential fight in boxing,” since both fighters have apparently run out of challenging opponents.

There are ways it can get done. They have to dumb down the rhetoric. We are prepared to dumb down the rhetoric and get it done. There is no real impediment to having that fight happen,” Bob Arum, a Pacquiao promoter, said. “Whether it will happen or not depends completely on the Mayweather side.”
