Aaron Hernandez being held in medical ward for safety

July 1 (UPI) -- Former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is not being held with the rest of the inmates in jail.

Instead, Hernandez is being held in the medical ward. Authorities are concerned about how his celebrity may affect his safety among other inmates.

Hernandez has been charged with first-degree murder in the homicide of Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional football player.

Officials in the jail are meeting to decide whether to keep Hernandez isolated or to put him in with a small group of inmates. Until they decide, Hernandez will stay in the medical wing and is only allowed out of his cell for one hour per day.
