Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas was driving through Los Angeles at 2:30 a.m Thursday when officers pulled him over for speeding.
When the California Highway Patrol pulled him over, they saw that his Ford pickup was filled with fireworks. The illegal explosives were in plain sight for police and filled the bed and cab of the truck.
Arenas, 31, was cited for speeding and driving without a license. He had so many fireworks in his car that officials called the LAPD bomb squad to confiscate them. Witnesses counted at least 20 boxes being removed from Arenas' truck.
Arenas, whose last play with the NBA was for the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2011-12 season, was arrested in 2010 for gun possession when he drew a loaded pistol in his Washington Wizards locker room.
He has spent the last season playing for the Shanghai Sharks as part of the Chinese Basketball Association. He is unlikely to ever return to the NBA as a 31-year-old with a criminal record.
