Caroline Wozniacki happy with performance, beau Rory McIlroy

Former No. 1 tennis star Caroline Wozniacki says her relationship with golfer Rory McIlroy has nothing to do with her performance.

Since the two met, McIlroy has won two majors despite inconsistency, and Wozniacki has fallen from No. 1 to No. 9.

But Wozniacki, 22, said she is happy with her performance and denies that their relationship has been bad for their games. Wozniacki plays in round one of Wimbledon women's singles Monday, and said she hopes to stay in the tournament long enough for McIlroy to see her play.

Wozniacki had a tough road to the semifinals at Eastbourne in the Aegon International, and despite her spotty Wimbledon history, she said she feels set to play well on the grass courts.

"I love the grass. I feel like I've had my chances. I just haven't grabbed them," Wozniacki said. I feel like grass is a surface that suits me. I return well, I can serve well, I can place the ball, I feel like I can move well on the grass, so I don't see why I shouldn't be able to do well there."

Wozniacki has never reached the quarterfinals in Wimbledon, but said she hopes her beau will bring her luck this time around, as he did watching her at Aegon International. She plays her first round Monday against Estrella Cabeza Candela of Spain.

McIlroy will not make the first round, as he plays this week in his home Irish Open.

“I just really like having Rory around and it is great that he comes to support me like at Eastbourne,” the 2006 junior Wimbledon winner said. “He has the Irish Open the first week of Wimbledon so hopefully he will be able to follow me the second week."

The two were rumored to be engaged in December after the 22-year-old was spotted with a diamond ring on her left ring finger, but the couple denied those rumors.
