WWE Payback results: Cena retains title, Punk returns

World Wrestling Entertainment had a big night Sunday highlighted by matches by John Cena vs. Ryback and the return of C.M. Punk.

The first ever WWE Payback pay-per-view match took place at the All State Arena in Rosemont, Ill.

The results were the following:

Curtis Axel was the winner and new champion of the Intercontinental Championship Match in which he fought Wade Barrett and The Miz.

A.J. Lee overpowered Kaitlyn and became the new champion of the Divas Championship Match.

Dean Ambrose beat Kane and remained the champion for the United States Championship Match.

Alberto Del Rio defeated Dolph Ziggler and became the new champion during the World Heavyweight Championship Match.

CM Punk won against Chris Jericho after a back a forth match that ended with Punk hitting Jericho with two consecutive GTS.

Roman Reins & Seth Rollins aka "The Shield" won against Daniel Bryan & Randy Orton (Team RKNo) and got to keep the champion title in the Tag Team Championship Match.

As for the Three Stages of Hell match fought by John Cena and Ryback, the latter won the first fall by putting Cena into shell shock. But the current champion recovered just in time to win the second fall sending the match into a sudden death.

The third portion of the fight took place in an Ambulance Match where the winner had to put his opponent in the back of the vehicle. Cena ended up beating Ryback, and he got to keep his title as winner of the WWE Championship
