June 12 (UPI) -- Patrick Ewing has been hired by the Charlotte Bobcats as an associate head coach.

The former New York Knicks player will be working alongside head coach Steve Clifford. He was reportedly also offered a spot in the Sacramento Kings coaching staff.

Ewing has worked as an NBA assistant for eight seasons. He worked in Houston from 2003 to 2008 and in Orlando from 2008 to 20012, both times he was a member of the coaching staff with Clifford.

Charlotte owner Michael Jordan has also worked with Ewing in the past. Besides being two of the most celebrated players of the '90s, the duo appeared together in the 1996 animated film "Space Jam."
