LPGA: Shanshan Feng holds second-round lead at Women's Open

BEDMINSTER, N.J. -- Shanshan Feng has a one-stroke lead midway through the second round of the 72nd U.S. Women's Open Championship. Feng, a native of China, stands at 7-under par through seven holes of her second round.

The 27-year old started the day with the lead to herself after firing a 6-under par 66 in Thursday's opening round.

Jeongeun6 Lee, from South Korea, shot her second consecutive 69 at Trump National Golf Club and stands at 6-under par 138 for 36 holes to lead in the clubhouse.

The 21-year old is playing in her first Women's Open -- she plays professionally on the KLPGA tour. She added the numeral 6 to her first name because there are five other women named Jeongeun Lee currently competing on the KLPGA Tour. Her Friday effort featured four birdies against a single bogey; she birdied 15 and 16 back-to-back to grab a share of the lead at that point.

Carlota Ciganda of Spain had to play the last hole of her opening round early Friday morning because of a rain delay on Thursday. She made the most of the opportunity, following up an opening 69 with a 71 on Friday and sits at 4-under par 140 at the championship's halfway point.

American Cristie Kerr, the 2007 Women's Open champion is at 4-under par approaching the midway point of her second round.

NOTES: American Michelle Wie withdrew from the championship Friday morning. Citing an injury, Wie withdrew while playing the 11th hole, her second of the day. The 2014 Women's Open champion played the last four holes of her Thursday round and part of a fifth following the rain delay ... There is the possibility President Donald Trump may attend the championship. The U.S. president owns the Trump National Golf Club, which features 36 holes. ... Rain is falling and more rain is in the forecast.
