Winnipeg Jets sign Ben Chiarot to two-year contract

The Winnipeg Jets agreed to terms with defenseman Ben Chiarot on a two-year contract Saturday with an average annual value of $1.4 million.

Chiarot, 26, played in 59 games with the Jets this past season and established a career-high 12 points (two goals, 10 assists) before suffering a season-ending upper body injury on March 19 against the Minnesota Wild.

Chiarot played in parts of the last four seasons with the Jets, recording 30 points (five goals, 25 assists) in 170 career games. He was drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the fourth round of the 2009 NHL draft.
